Nature of work : -Improvement of existing ophthalmology services
- Help to combat cataracts
Achievements to date : -25,000 consultations
- 2,705 operations (cataract + trichiasis)
- Medical and technical support to Bangui General Hospital
- Organising the validation workshop of the National Plan for Trachoma Control integrated with the National Neglected Tropical Disease Control Plan in collaboration with the International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) and Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM).
- Procurement of funding from the French Development Agency (AFD) for the purchase of consumables and equipment related to the national trachoma control programme
- Submission of a trachoma control project, with the surgical component supported by the Lions Clubs International Foundation
- Submission of a trachoma control project, with the antibiotic component supported by Sightsavers.
Aims : - Recommencing the activity of the Mobile Ocular Surgery Unit
- Start the first year group of Senior Ophthalmic Technicians (SOTs)
- Complete trachoma mapping
- Develop an approach to maintain the OPC’s action in line with the national programme for onchocerciasis control over the next five years (2013-2018) in partnership with Sightsavers International
